The bill on foreign agents, which became the formal reason for mass protests in Georgia, was withdrawn from parliament.

The ruling party “Georgian Dream” and “Power of the People” decided to do this for the sake of “advancing along the path of European integration,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We must take care of peace, tranquility and economic development in our country, as well as Georgia’s advancement along the path of European integration. Therefore, it is necessary to spend the energy of each of our citizens not on confrontation, but on developing the country in the right direction.

Taking into account all of the above, as a managerial authority responsible to every member of society, we have decided to unconditionally withdraw the bill we supported,” the party’s political councils said in a statement.

According to Georgian political scientist Shota Apkhaidze, this indicates a victory for the United States, which is behind the protests in the country, but despite this, the protesters are not going to disperse, because the true goal of the protests is the overthrow of the government.

“The night passed in a very tense atmosphere, the protesters destroyed everything - they broke windows in the parliament buildings, burned several police cars, threw Molotov cocktails, and destroyed shops in the center. Now the demonstrators have not dispersed, they are all over the city, hiding in courtyards...

Georgian Dream showed America and the West that they could play their own game, but when they were put under pressure, they compromised with the Americans.

Already today, for example, officials from the White House called, and they withdrew the law and said that they would discuss it. This can be considered a victory for the West, for this liberal dictatorship.

But the fact that the protests do not subside suggests that their goals, that is, the Americans, are to overthrow the government. I would not say that the opposition has won – at the moment it is the Americans who are winning,” the expert said.

He added that against this background, Georgia blocked the border with Russia at the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint - in the fall of this year it was stormed by Russian citizens fleeing mobilization, and now they are trying to return to their homeland.

“A big traffic jam has formed in Upper Lars - now these “runners” who previously fled to Georgia are running back. These people have no sense of patriotism, they are in search of a better life - typical behavior of liberals from the metropolis. They now, apparently, became uncomfortable in Georgia and decided to return back to Moscow,” Aphaidze said.

Let us note that, according to another version, the traffic jam at the border is associated with an avalanche, and not with the influx of people fleeing from Georgia back to the Russian Federation.
