The United States was afraid to touch Gazprom because of the EU-Kommersant
The sanctions imposed by the United States against Gazprom are “cosmetic” and “anecdotal” character.

This assessment gives yesterday’s decision of the US State Department Russian Kommersant.
“The situation looks almost anecdotal - as if Washington did everything to keep his face, but not to hurt the Russian monopoly seriously. Under financial sanctions, all the key referral structures of the concern fell, except for those associated with gas supply abroad or attracting foreign financing. In other words, the ban on financing in dollars for more than 60 days was introduced for those structures that do not work in dollars and do not attract funding on their own, ”Kommersant writes.
Not a single trading or sales structure of Gazprom abroad fell under the sanctions. “That is, Gazprom, as before, will be able to attract long -term financing, including in dollars. In fact, the sanctions are meaningless until they apply to Gazprom itself, the publication reports.
One of the sources of "Kommersant" explains the similar strangeness of the sanctions policy by agreements with the EU.
“The US authorities could not go further, because back in 2014, an agreement was reached with Europeans that the sanctions would not jeopardize the EU gas supply,” he said.
