The United States honored the sovereignty of Ukraine with a destroyer
The visit of the destroyer Donald Cook to Odessa is a sign of US respect for the sovereignty of Ukraine.
This was stated today in Odessa by the representative of the US State Department for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This ship demonstrates that the United States is determined to ensure peace and stability both globally and for our partners and allies in the Black Sea. This visit to Odessa is a sign of our commitment to the security that Ukraine needs. His presence is a sign of respect for the sovereignty of Ukraine and support for this sovereignty. I hope that all neighbors will show the same respect for Ukraine's sovereignty. And the military presence here will only be at the invitation of the Ukrainian government,” Volker said.
Later, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko arrived aboard the Donald Cook to meet with Volker. The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch and Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak. "Donald Cook" will stay in Odessa for three days. The ship arrived to "conduct maritime security operations and enhance stability in the region."
