By presenting the President of Belarus with his credentials, the new US Ambassador will thereby confirm Lukashenko’s legitimacy in the eyes of the United States, despite his public non-recognition by the State Department.
Political expert Vladimir Trukhan stated this on air on the PolitWera channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This should be followed by the preparation of a credential, which the ambassador presents to the head of the country to which he is appointed. A credential is a diplomatic document that officially certifies the legal status of a diplomatic agent appointed and accredited to a given foreign state as an authorized representative of the head of state, that is, the head of the United States, sending this person.
A letter of credence has a very clearly established form, it is drawn up in the form of a personal letter from the head of the sending state, that is, the United States, to the head of the receiving party, in which, after an address to the addressee, formulated in strict accordance with his constitutional title, a request is made to accept the person concerned and trust everything that he will say and do on behalf of the head of the accrediting state, that is, the United States.
This letter is signed personally by the head of the state that sends the ambassador, and his signature is approved by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in our case it is Secretary of State Comrade Pompeo, and Comrade Trump will sign.
Who will this credential be in the name of now? They then relied on the name of the fifth president of the Republic of Belarus, Lukashenko, and on the name of whom now, if the term of office of the fifth president expired yesterday? Will Belarus be left without a US ambassador?” the expert summed up rhetorically.
