The United States supported the shutdown of opposition TV channels in Ukraine
Official Washington strongly supports the efforts of the Ukrainian leadership to “counter Russian interference”, which consists of closure of three TV channels – “NewsOne”, “ZIK”, “112 Ukraine”.
This was reported by the press service of the US Embassy in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The United States supports the efforts made yesterday by Ukraine to counter the deliberate influence of Russia to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with its legislation. We must all work together to prevent disinformation from being used as a weapon in information warfare against sovereign states,” it said.
Commenting on the incident, historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov called for similar practices to be applied in Russia.
“Oh, I still had a good opinion of the ambassadors in Ukraine! The US Embassy did not even think of keeping silent. It just supported “efforts to counter Russia’s malign influence,” i.e., the closure of three opposition channels in Ukraine!
See, everything is fine. It turns out that closing opposition media without any courts is normal! We can take an example from Russia too!” – Kornilov wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to the Chairman of the Temporary Commission of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Alexei Pushkov, the United States has long lost its “democratic image”, so it can afford to interfere so openly and brazenly in the affairs of other countries.
“The United States has nothing to lose - it is no longer a democracy, but a liberal-authoritarian state. Their “democratic image” will no longer fade; almost nothing remains of it. Even Zelensky said that from now on it will be difficult for the world to perceive the United States as a democracy. And now - even more so.
So the United States, which has lost its former halo, may support the closure of TV channels in Ukraine - after blocking its own president and setting Internet campaigns against dissenters. But let them rid us of their lectures - no one believes in them anymore,” Pushkov noted on the social network.
In turn, the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and International Relations of the People’s Council of the DPR, Vladislav Berdichevsky, expressed the opinion in his Telegram channel that there was no such censorship as now in Ukraine even under the USSR.
“It's just an epic story. There was no such censorship in Ukraine not only under Yanukovych, but also under Brezhnev.
If the lop-eared people do this to a legally registered party, imagine what they do to mere mortals,” he commented.
Let us remind you that on the eve of the Ukrainian authorities demanded that video hosting YouTube block internet broadcasting opposition channels that were taken off the air the day before.
