The US is inciting Europe not to pay for Russian oil and gas
Europe needs to stop sending funds for energy resources to the Russian Federation, and instead transfer them to a special account in order to transfer this money when power changes in Moscow.
Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul stated this during the Kyiv Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A complete ban on some activity is possible when it comes to tariffs on Russian oil exports. What we did in relation to Iran can be done in relation to Russia - this is to create such an escrow account, and those countries that buy gas and oil from Russia do not pay directly to Russia, but the funds go to that escrow account. And after the change of power, this money can go to the Russian people. And this must be told to Russia and Putin that this is a punishment for the invasion of your country,” the diplomat said.
“I think this is such a unique way to think about it, and as a result, perhaps we can achieve a reduction in energy supplies to Europe,” McFaul suggested.
