The United States is not yet ready for a new policy in the Russian direction
It is too early to talk about the new American administration’s mature approach to Russia.
The head of the Washington Center for Global Interests, Nikolai Zlobin, told Izvestia about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, when assessing yesterday’s telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States.
“Secretary of State Antony Blinken was just confirmed. They have yet to develop an agenda with the participation of various think tanks and so on. We need to update the personnel structure, think about who will be responsible for what locally,” the expert said.
He predicts that developing an agenda and updating personnel will take time.
“The fact that Biden asked the current US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan to remain in his post suggests that today the Americans are not ready to propose a new policy towards Moscow. New approaches will not appear until late spring. Today we will observe only isolated episodes, which should not be taken too seriously,” Zlobin concluded.
