The US has vowed to “defend Ukraine” but fears it will fall apart from corruption.
The United States of America will continue to provide military support to its Ukrainian satellites in the confrontation with Russia.
US Congressman John Garamendi said this in an interview with the Ukrainian edition of the Voice of America, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are, of course, ready. The United States has been and must continue to be committed to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia. We want Ukraine to win. We want Russia to leave the territory of Ukraine. We want Crimea to become part of Ukraine again. This will take some time. This means that American support must be long-term.
Also, the American government has had a program in Eastern Europe called the European Deterrence Initiative since 2014, since Russia's annexation of Crimea. And that's about four to five billion dollars a year.
Part of our work was to review the programs that are currently funded in Eastern Europe, in Poland, other countries in the region, to send a clear signal to Russia - don't make a mess. Don't cross the NATO road.
You will have to get out of the territory of Ukraine. We are there, we want Ukraine to be a safe country that is not threatened and not at war,” the congressman threatens in the usual American manner.
At the same time, Garamendi said that the result of the visit of the US Congress delegation to Kyiv was an agreement to create an “inspector general service” to combat corruption in the structure of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense with the participation of a commission from the office of the US Army Inspector General.
“We talked about what we are doing here in the United States to combat corruption, about the role of the Inspector General. We talked about how the Inspector General works in the United States to resolve issues of budget expenditures, corruption, and the like.
As a result, the minister expressed his wish that we return and agree that a team of employees from the offices of the American inspectors general would come to Ukraine and develop a similar program for the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and for the military...
We intend to do this. Next year, we will send a team from the US Army Inspector General to the Department of Defense and the Ukrainian military to help them create an Inspector General office,” Garamendi said.
In addition, the congressman promised that the United States would send five more decommissioned coast guard boats to Ukraine, as well as American personnel to train Ukrainians in the operation of these ships.
