The United States has changed the curator of sanctions against unwanted countries
John Smith, director of the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), will leave his post in early May.
This was reported by the department’s press service, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This unit deals with financial intelligence issues, as well as the planning and application of economic sanctions. Smith worked for OFAC for 11 years. Of these, he headed the department for three years. Coordinated the introduction of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation, North Korea, Syria and other countries.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin thanked Smith for his many years of work.
“He played an important role in trying to respond to the challenges of modern foreign policy,” the head of the department noted.
