The United States will not negotiate with Russia on the Ukrainian issue “behind Kyiv’s back” and does not want to become members of the Normandy Format. US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The United States has made it clear that we fully support the peace process in the Normandy Format.” We do not intend to become part of it or lead it,” Volker said.

He also emphasized that Ukraine is no less important for the United States than Syria and North Korea: “It is important. There are many other things in the bilateral relationship between the US and Russia that are important... There are international issues like Syria and North Korea. They are all important, but Ukraine is also important.”
