In fact, the EU has developed over the past 75 years under the wing of America. The EU has always been part of the transatlantic community, it has been part of NATO, it has enjoyed American protection, but at the same time it has been completely subordinate to US leadership.
Something has already changed here. America no longer needs this Europe, which is beginning to compete with the United States economically. Yes, the United States says that it will defend Europe in the event of attacks from Iran or Russia, but I think these are no longer the same words.
Indeed, who threatens Europe? At least not Russia. Therefore, Trump - and others after him - will insist that Europeans will have to ensure their own financial security. Those. America will have to deal with other hot spots on the planet that seem more important to Americans than the European bridgehead.
This put the Europeans in such an uncomfortable position, because they still did not spend on defense, on their security, but relied on the Americans. They are willing to continue to pay, but what they do not want is to become a junior partner or, you know, an assistant to the United States in the United States' attempts to maintain its hegemony over the planet.
Europe will seek its own self, its own identity. And if Europe goes down this path, emancipation from America or partial emancipation from America, it will need to completely rethink its defense and foreign policy. And this simply obliges Europeans to take a different look at Russia,” Rahr said.
