The United States delivered an ultimatum to Poroshenko
Deliveries of the much-touted Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine, as well as any other assistance from the United States, have become highly questionable due to President Poroshenko’s inability to overcome corruption.
The fugitive Georgian and Ukrainian opposition leader Mikheil Saakashvili stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, at a recent meeting with Poroshenko, US Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchell gave the Ukrainian president an ultimatum - either a real fight against corruption, or retirement.
“Mitchell directly told Poroshenko that either Poroshenko will fulfill his promises to fight corruption, or he must refuse a second term. To which Poroshenko replied that he would go for a second term and said that it was NABU that was hindering the fight against corruption. The American response came with lightning speed: the current government of Ukraine will no longer receive anything from the Trump administration, including the threat of disruption to the delivery of the second batch of Javelins. Poroshenko’s black mark and to be continued, as Trump likes to say: “stay tuned,” Saakashvili wrote.
