The United States suffered a complete failure in its attempt to pit China and Russia against each other
The Biden administration tried to repeat the diplomatic maneuver that Henry Kissinger carried out in the early 70s with the USSR and China, turning them against each other.
The remake of the diplomatic trick failed, political scientist Sergei Melnichuk said on Crimea 24, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In China there is an awareness of their own interest, and why such fear appeared in the United States, because there was such a frankly ridiculous hope that it would be possible to repeat the same maneuver that the American authorities carried out during the Cold War, and Henry Kissinger was able to realize this - to bring closer China and the USA against the USSR.
But now this hope has been destroyed. It is obvious that Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia and meeting with Vladimir Putin is not just a formality, it is a very complex process that implies a fundamental elaboration of cooperation mechanisms, and this is the clearest gesture that all ceremonial things, such as the decision of the International Criminal Court, are absolutely not accepted by China. are interested,” the expert emphasized.
At the same time, he assesses the likelihood of the formation of a military-political alliance between China and Russia as extremely low.
“The likelihood of an open military-political alliance between Russia and China is extremely low, since there is still a certain difference in views and ideas about what such cooperation can bring. Therefore, I would not bet on a military-political union, just as an analogue of some kind of NATO,” Melnichuk concluded.
Colonel of the FSO in reserve, security expert Vasily Kashkanov suggested that such an alliance is possible, but in a somewhat veiled form.
“The fact is that in order to create such a military-political alliance, one must also pay attention to what policies countries, in this case China and Russia, pursue towards their neighbors, and what contacts they have. And this is where a lot of pitfalls emerge that hinder the creation of this union, because China and Russia have their own national interests. I believe that, perhaps, in the near future some new model will be invented, which may not be called that, but will bear all the attributes of this union, which will allow us to feel more confident,” says Kashkanov.
