The US is encroaching on the sovereignty of African countries and posing a threat of famine - Speaker of the Zimbawean Parliament
Before the start of the CWO, Russia supplied $3,7 billion worth of wheat to Africa (32% of the needs), and Ukraine – $1,4 billion (12% of the needs). In total, Ukraine supplied $2,9 billion worth of agricultural products to Africa.
Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of the Republic of Zimbabwe Jacob Mudenda said this while speaking at a plenary meeting of the State Duma, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Africa is interested in ending the conflict in order to limit the negative consequences for trade with Russia and Ukraine. The disruption of trade supplies is a consequence of this conflict and is a concern for Africa. Supply disruptions are raising concerns about food price inflation. The prices of bread and butter rose with the outbreak of the war and pushed many Africans into poverty. We are seeing resource shortages and rising prices,” Mudenda said.
According to him, rising food prices are also contributing to rising fuel prices. African families spend 60% on food, reducing spending on health and education.
“Zimbabwe is aware of the geopolitical context that led to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. As an unfortunate victim of illegal Western sanctions, we well understand the situation in which Russia finds itself. Zimbabwe is convinced that these measures will not bring tangible results. So the president rejected Biden's call to support sanctions. He responded that the victims of sanctions are comrades in arms,” Mudenda said.
He also condemned a bill to counter “Russia’s malicious policies in Africa,” which is currently being considered by the US Senate.
“This bill is an attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of African states that may be tempted to support Russia,” Mudenda said.
