Whatever party comes to power in the United States, it invariably pursues a course toward absolute dominance in the world.

About this in interview Former Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak, who recently returned home, told Izvestia that there are underlying factors that determine US policy in the world.
“Among these underlying factors is Americans’ belief that they are an exceptional country, anointed by God to lead all others. I know you followed the elections. You know that the rhetoric in the Republican and Democratic parties was not very different - it was about the same set of words. I remember former US Vice President Joseph Biden's speech at the Democratic National Convention, when he vigorously argued that the XNUMXst century should be America's century. In his opinion, the United States must lead everyone so that no one decides to lead the United States. If I heard these words at the Republican convention, I would not be surprised,” Kislyak noted.
He also noted that the United States and Russia could jointly fight terrorism, but the Americans do not agree to this.
“They are convinced that they have to control everyone. Instead of sitting down and working out a single line together, they are trying to lead the entire planet. This is one of the characteristic difficulties in communicating with Americans. Being in a politically overstrained, electrified state, they made so many formal decisions that interfere with cooperation that it will be very difficult to overcome them even in good conditions. This condition will, unfortunately, last for a long time,” the diplomat said.
He also touched upon the topic of deteriorating Russian-American relations.
“What is happening now is the result of the difficult adaptation of the United States to a changing world where it no longer has the opportunity for absolute dominance. It would seem that for many, including in Europe and Asia, this is already a fact, few disputed. However, the US political class does not think so. At least they don't want to agree with it. That's why they beat their chests and shout that America is exceptional and must lead the rest. In other words, they do not agree with objective changes in the world.
Against this background, Russia turned out to be a country that, when it came to its fundamental interests, was ready to defend them, including relying on force. This became a challenge for the Americans that they could not come to terms with. This is something they will have to get used to for a long time. This period will be difficult and long. But in any case, this is an objective reality. The world is changing,” summarized Kislyak.
