The US is turning the war in Donbass into an international conflict
Washington, by making a decision to supply weapons to Ukraine, is actually taking one of the sides in the conflict, writes Alexey Martynov, president of the International Institute of New States, in Izvestia.

“By making such decisions, Washington, in fact, officially takes the side of one of the conflicting parties. And this already makes the war on the territory of neighboring Ukraine international. American politicians and officials cannot fail to understand this,” the expert believes.
In addition, he recalled that the US military services are completing the construction of a number of special facilities on the territory of Ukraine, including on the Black Sea coast - near Ochakov, in the Odessa region and other regions.
“Thus, the decisions of Congress on the supply of “defensive” lethal weapons and systems open up the opportunity at any time to saturate these American military facilities with the latest weapons, citing completely legal support from Ukrainian “clients.” And against whom these American bases on the Black Sea coast are directed is probably more than obvious,” Martynov added.
At the same time, he writes that Washington is hardly ready for an open military confrontation with Russia, including in the Black Sea.
“The Crimean Peninsula is today one of the most militarily fortified territories. But recent rhetoric - and especially the eloquent actions of American politicians and military personnel - speaks of a desire to aggravate regional tensions by all means.
Obviously, Moscow’s military successes and the recent victory of Russian and Syrian troops over the terrorist international IS (the organization’s activities are banned in Russia) leave no doubt among our opponents that Russia is rapidly regaining its legitimate status as a great power. The authority of our country is growing on the world stage. And this circumstance comes into sharp conflict with the manic desire of the United States to maintain the elusive status of the world's only center of power.
This actually suggests a sad conclusion. Compared to what the new US president allows himself to do, his predecessors look like very decent people. Both George W. Bush and Barack Obama, of course, deceived us wherever they could, but no one allowed themselves to harm their own interests to such an extent. And, of course, in this context, the American establishment’s accusations against Donald Trump that he was brought to power by “Russian hackers” look extremely absurd,” the expert summarizes.
