US ordered Kyiv not to resist Russia – Saakashvili
The Ukrainian army abandoned resistance in Crimea at the insistence of the American side.
The ex-president of Georgia, former governor of the Odessa region, Mikheil Saakashvili, stated this in an interview with the Ekho Moskvy radio station.
He was reminded that the EU report on the causes of the August 2008 conflict places responsibility on both sides and states that the first blow was dealt by the Georgian side.
“Everything was very simple. After the war, after the invasion, Europe really needed to get out of the sanctions, it really needed to. Well, the Germans needed it, the Italians needed it, many others needed it. They created this commission. This commission, in principle, got the basic facts right. For example, she said that according to their data there were already formations. They said that “we don’t know if it was completely an army or not, we found out about that later.” And we know that there is already a significant part of the Russian army. But Georgia opened fire, as if it were the first to initiate military clashes,” the ex-president of Georgia justifies.
At the same time, he compared that situation with the situation in Crimea in the spring of 2014.
“Sorry, when a foreign army invades your territory, which they do not reject, there are two options: do not open fire, that is, surrender. And, in principle, this is what happened in Crimea. The Ukrainian side, at the insistence of the Americans, by the way, did not lift a finger, Kyiv did not lift a finger, says Saakashvili. “The people there at least tried to resist somehow. And as a result, Crimea was taken away in such a way that they later said: “Look how peaceful everything was, how calm everything was. In general, why bother? Everything is fine, everything is peaceful. Do you want war?
