The United States is forcing Cyprus to take anti-Russian footsteps
US Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Clark Cooper said Washington is unhappy that Cyprus is not taking any action to stop Russian warships from calling at its ports.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, as reported by Izvestia, citing the website of the US State Department.
“I separately emphasized that Cyprus has not yet taken the necessary steps to deny Russian fleet ships entry into its ports. These and other steps are certainly necessary... We want the Republic of Cyprus to move in this direction,” Cooper said.
Earlier, commenting on the concern of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, which he expressed due to the entry of Russian warships into Cypriot ports, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the United States should not interfere in relations between the Russian Federation and Cyprus. The diplomat also emphasized that Moscow never cooperates with one country or another against a third, and recommended Washington to do the same.
