The United States intends to discredit the parliamentary elections in Russia using the OSCE.

This was stated at a meeting of the temporary commission of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation for the protection of sovereignty by its chairman Andrei Klimov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In Washington, back in the spring, a decision was made to discredit the Russian Duma elections, even before they were announced. Moreover, at any cost. I would like to remind you that the American law on countering America’s adversaries, adopted in relation to the Russian Federation under Trump, is among the structures that are ordered to restrain us, called the OSCE,” Klimov said.

This is precisely what he sees as the reason OSCE/ODIHR's decision not to send observers to Russian elections. The senator believes that in this way the goal is to “ignite an artificial scandal in order to then doubt the legitimacy of the elections.”

According to Klimov, the West has long used unscrupulous international surveillance as a tool in the fight against Russia.

“In previous years, there were many cases when our foreign colleagues, to put it mildly, interpreted their powers broadly and abused their hospitality. Some observers, who mostly came to us from the countries of the collective West, essentially tried to interfere in the course of the elections, which is unacceptable in any sovereign state. Some observers were clearly determined to present their reports in exclusively black tones. It got to the point that drafts of a number of reports were written even before the end of the election procedures. Some came directly to the country with them. It was written there that everything was bad with us even before we arrived. These reports were published before voting day,” Klimov said.

As PolitNavigator reported, the OSCE/ODIHR refused to send representatives to Russia after the Russian authorities did not agree to accept 500 observers, reducing their number to 60 due to the pandemic.
