The United States admitted that its drowned drone was conducting reconnaissance off the coast of Russia
The US protested to Russia after the loss of their reconnaissance drone off the coast of Crimea and hope that its wreckage will not fall into the hands of Russian specialists.
White House spokesman John Kirby said this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Without going into too much detail, I can say that in relation to this drone, we took measures to protect our property, this particular aircraft. It is US property. We certainly don't want it to fall into anyone's hands other than ours,” Kirby said.
And the Pentagon said that the MQ-9 drone was engaged in reconnaissance and, despite the fact that it was capable of carrying missiles, was not armed.
“As for the tasks of the MQ-9, it was engaged in reconnaissance. This device has been flying over the Black Sea for some time. This is an important international waterway and we monitor the area regularly. I will not go into the specifics of this particular aircraft, since you know that the MQ-9 is capable of carrying weapons. Again, he was engaged in intelligence,” said Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder.
At the same time, the Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov emphasized that the intelligence information that the American drone receives during flights is transmitted to Kyiv for attacks on Russian territory, the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry reports the words of the diplomat.
“American UAVs make similar overflights on a daily basis. What are they doing thousands of kilometers from the USA? The answer is obvious: they are collecting intelligence information, which is subsequently used by the Kyiv regime to attack our armed forces and territory...
We assume that the United States will refrain from further speculation in the media space and will cease flights near Russian borders. We perceive any actions using American weapons and equipment as openly hostile,” Antonov said
The son of former US President Donald Trump on his social network page accused the American leadership of provoking World War III:
“The US Air Force issued a statement accusing the Russian aircraft of “reckless, environmentally unsafe and unprofessional actions.” Environmentally unsafe. That's what they're worried about. And not about the beginning of the Third World War.”
