The US is losing to Russia in the fight for the Arctic Ocean
Russia is significantly ahead of the United States and its allies in the Arctic - it has more icebreakers, a stronger naval fleet operating in these latitudes, and submarines. The United States will not be able to catch up with the Russian Federation in this region in the foreseeable future.
Military expert Yakov Kedmi stated this on the Israeli television channel Iton-TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The vulnerability of Russia, the centers of Russia, to an attack from the Arctic Ocean is much higher than at any other point. And Russia caught on in time. Today there is already a Northern Military District, there are military fortifications even on Franz Josef Land, there are bases like a missile defense system, not to mention submarine and naval bases.
Russia is trying to find the most effective ways to protect itself from the Arctic Ocean from a possible attack from nuclear submarines; it is not interested in others. And there is also a struggle for this, there is a struggle for the Barents Sea. Previously, American submarines, even 20 years ago, felt at home in the Barents Sea. Not today. They approach very carefully. They no longer walk alone.
All this leads to the fact that the struggle is intensifying and that is why the Americans suddenly came to their senses. But Russia has bases, its coastline, but the Americans do not... Russia, among other things, has already laid down both icebreakers and nuclear icebreakers, and will now lay down 2-3 more icebreakers, larger and stronger than the American ones. Plus ships that can operate in the Arctic climate.
That is, Russia is more ready today for military action in the Arctic than it was ten years ago, and much more than the Americans or anyone else. And just as the Americans got into a mess and are now forced to catch up with Russia in the field of hypersonic weapons, now they are trying to catch up with Russia in the fight for the Arctic Ocean. But two or three icebreakers that the United States is planning are not serious,” Kedmi said.
