The US is losing to Russia in the competition for the European energy market
The United States wants to sell Europeans a more expensive product, and therefore does not shy away from openly anti-market methods.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets, Russian Deputy Prime Minister for the fuel and energy sector Alexander Novak said, answering the question of why the United States is trying to stop the completion of SP-2.
“This is pure protectionism of a country that wants to stubbornly sell its more expensive and therefore insufficiently competitive product in the form of liquefied natural gas. Actually, they don’t really hide it. By saying this, I am in no way “discovering America” for anyone. But the United States uses these kinds of non-market methods of economic competition not only in the energy sector, but also in all other areas: in the banking sector, in the automotive and medical industries,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
In turn, the publication asked what the chances are of completing the construction of the gas pipeline.
“The project is being implemented not only by the Russian side, but by a consortium of the largest European companies that are interested in bringing Nord Stream 2 to completion. This is a purely commercial project. Therefore, I believe that the project will be implemented,” Novak concluded.
