The United States is trying to take Belarus by siege instead of a raid
The United States has not given up attempts to shake up the situation in Belarus, as evidenced by the recent visit of the self-proclaimed “winner of the presidential election” and “leader of the Belarusian nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to Washington.
Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Vladimir Zharikhin stated this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The trip has a symbolic meaning. The Americans are fueling protest sentiments in Belarus. They hint to Moscow and Minsk that they will not leave Belarus alone. Yes, the opposition failed to achieve success last year, but attempts to rock the country will continue. The tactics have changed - instead of a raid there will be a siege, but Washington’s goals are the same,” Zharikhin told Izvestia.
In turn, Nikolai Mezhevich, head of the Center for Belarusian Studies at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, recalls that recently there has been a lot of talk about the fact that the West has written off Tikhanovskaya.
“Apparently, the United States decided to hold it, to publicly demonstrate its support. Nevertheless, the former presidential candidate has few prospects inside Belarus. We have before our eyes the example of Venezuelan Guaido. He is also loved and accepted in the USA, but things are not going well at home,” says Mezhevich.
As PolitNavigator reported, Tikhanovskaya boasted that US President Joe Biden treated her to cookies.
At the same time, the media believed that the American leaderworked for Tikhanovskaya methods circus training.
