“The United States will deploy Patriot missiles in Poland as part of an exercise. Earlier, Russia announced the deployment of short-range missiles in the Kaliningrad region,” the publication reports.
The US has expanded its military presence in Poland with the deployment of 30 military vehicles and 100 additional soldiers. The US State Department says in a press release:
“US soldiers will train for several days along with Polish troops to deploy air defense systems. "U.S. forces will deploy Patriot air defense missiles in Poland to show that Patriot systems can be deployed on NATO territory in a very short period of time."
The State Department commented on the expansion of the military presence of NATO countries in the Baltics. These, in their opinion, are “containment measures.”
The Patriot deployment is a direct US response to the deployment of Russian Iskander-M short-range missiles in the Kaliningrad region. About 10 thousand soldiers from NATO countries will participate in the maneuvers in Poland.
