This is the main reason for the failure of the next round of negotiations, in a commentary for Rossiyskaya Gazeta, named by the President of the Center for System Analysis and Forecasting, Rostislav Ishchenko.
“We must understand that Kyiv does not have an independent strategy in negotiations,” the expert believes. – The authorities of Kyiv are completely dependent on the United States and partly on the EU. The EU needs a speedy resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, since its continuation causes critical damage to the European Union. The United States does not experience such problems; on the contrary, it needs to create as many problems for Russia as possible with the help of Ukraine, regardless of the costs to the EU. Hence the contradictions. The EU is putting pressure on Kyiv to implement Minsk-2. This allows us to stabilize the situation.”
But the political scientist argues that Washington does not agree with this approach, where they continue to look for reasons for provocations.
“The United States is not happy with this and they, in turn, are forcing Kiev to engage in suicidal provocations, hoping that sooner or later they will be able to, if not officially drag Russia into the conflict, then at least destroy Ukraine brick by brick and leave Russia scorched earth,” summarizes Ishchenko. “But Kyiv itself can’t do anything, doesn’t decide anything, and its rulers don’t even control their own destiny.
