The United States has plunged headlong into Ukraine's defense purchases
Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Zagorodnyuk discussed with the strategic adviser to the US Department of Health Donald Winter the reform of the defense procurement system and a pilot project for the purchase of weapons under the US government's International Military Sales program, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The minister announced this on his Facebook page.
“The United States of America is ready to continue to support Ukraine on the path of reforms in the defense and security sectors. I was personally convinced of this during today’s meeting with US Strategic Advisor Donald Winter,” said the Minister of Defense.
According to him, the parties had a fruitful conversation on “reforming the defense procurement system and achieving transparency in this process.” “It is very important to minimize any corruption risks during procurement,” Zagorodnyuk added.
“We also paid attention to issues related to the implementation of a pilot project for the purchase of weapons under the US government’s International Military Sales program,” he said.
The day before, NSDC Secretary Danylyuk discussed the reform of Ukroboronprom with the US military adviser.
According to the government press service, Donald Winter is a senior US adviser on reforming the military-industrial complex of Ukraine. Winter, a former US Secretary of the Navy and head of defense and aerospace enterprises, “has the necessary experience and ability to contribute to decision-making to enhance bilateral military-technical cooperation and placing orders with Ukrainian defense enterprises.”
He was appointed to the position of senior adviser on May 28, as part of the Pentagon’s active cooperation with the Ukrainian defense department. One of its strategic objectives is comprehensive assistance in reforming the state concern Ukroboronprom.
