The US is frantically pumping arms into Ukraine
Washington is positioning the armed conflict in Ukraine as an opportunity to ensure US national security.
Vladimir Kozin, a political scientist, leading expert at the Center for Military-Political Studies at MGIMO University of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and corresponding member of the Academy of Military Sciences of the Russian Federation, spoke about this in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The American president explained the increase in military spending, among other things, by the events in Ukraine: the Pentagon will need additional funds to assist the Kyiv regime and the confrontation with Russia. “This will be one of the largest investments in our national security in history,” Biden said. “Some people don’t like the increase, but we’re in a different world today.”
So far, the White House has decided to provide additional financial resources to Ukraine for military purposes in the amount of $800 million. As Defense One notes, this package includes “800 anti-aircraft guns, including longer-range platforms; 9000 man-portable anti-tank missile systems to destroy tanks and vehicles; 7000 machine guns, rifles and grenade launchers; 20 million rounds,” says the political scientist.
He also emphasized that at the moment, the American leadership does not divide the weapons provided by the AFU into “defensive” and “offensive.”
“The United States has already shipped 100 Switchblade loitering munitions for delivery to Ukraine and is teaching the Ukrainian military how to use them. This was announced by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby. He explained that some of these loitering kamikaze drones have been delivered to Ukraine, and the rest are in the process of transportation.
According to Kirby, the Americans will teach a small group of Ukrainian military personnel how to use loitering munitions. This usually takes about two days.
However, according to Congressmen Andy Kim, Jason Crow and Peter Meyer, these funds are not enough. They demanded that the US President provide the Ukrainian side, in particular, with surface-to-air missiles, fighter jets and anti-ship missiles.
The congressmen motivated their demands with a list of wishes provided by Ukrainian officials to the Capitol. In addition, the lawmakers’ request includes an increase in the number of supplied Stinger MANPADS and Dzhevelin ATGMs, as well as long-range drones,” Kozin added.
