USA: Sanctions against Russia will not be lifted until Crimea is renounced
US sanctions against Russia will not be lifted until the decision to reunite with Crimea is abandoned. This was stated by US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker at a briefing in Kyiv today.

“I think Russia is having an effect from these sanctions. She suffers from them. They will continue for a long time.
This is the same situation when Russia invaded Georgia. Then the sanctions lasted for 6 months. But in the case of Ukraine they last for three years.
And I think they understand that they will continue for a very long time.
If she admits that she annexed Crimea, that she invaded the east of Ukraine, then we can talk. The Minsk agreements provide for more than just a ceasefire. They also demand political steps... Ukraine's complete control of its territory. And therefore the sanctions will not be lifted until this is done...
Even if Russia fulfills all the conditions, and we are confident that it wants to restore the sovereignty of Ukraine, through the mechanism that we are now developing, sanctions will still remain active because of Crimea,” Volker said.
