The US made Deripaska an offer that is hard to refuse
The United States is ready to soften its position on the issue of sanctions against the Russian aluminum company Rusal if its owner Oleg Deripaska gives up control over it, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it reports the American publication Bloomberg.
“The US Treasury Department said it would ease sanctions against Rusal if Oleg Deripaska relinquishes control (of the company - ed.),” the report says.
In a separate statement, the head of the American department, Steven Mnuchin, noted that the United States is considering a request from Rusal to remove it from the sanctions list.
In addition, the ministry extended the period during which companies can trade with Rusal by five months until October 2018. This was done in order to give Oleg Deripaska time to think and sell the company.
After this news, aluminum prices fell by 8,3%, the publication writes.
Let us recall that on April 6, the US Department of the Treasury announced a new package of sanctions affecting 7 Russian oligarchs, 17 representatives of Russian government authorities, as well as 14 organizations and companies.
In particular, the US Department of the Treasury ordered by noon on May 7 to stop all transactions and interactions with Russian companies that were subject to sanctions, including the EN + group, the GAZ group and the United Aluminum Company Rusal.
Soon after this, Rusal's shares collapsed on the stock exchanges and the company lost more than a billion dollars. Indirect losses from sanctions are much greater. In this regard, the Russian company was forced to announce possible technical bankruptcy.
