“The USA is a broken country” – half of California’s population is in favor of secession
Support for the idea of secession from the United States in California has the support of not only the population, but also politicians, both from the Republican and Democratic camps.
The leader of the California Independence Movement, Calexit candidate for the post of governor of the state, Luis Marinelli, stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In California, we had several polls about independence, and they showed that 1/3 of the population supports the idea of independence. Also, if you read the polls, you will see that 15% are not against it, but not entirely in favor. That is, we can persuade them, that is, if we combine those who are not against and those who are for independence, then we have approximately 50% of the population,” Marinelli said.
“Our independence movement is not only California, we have friends in Texas, in other states like New Hampshire, who also want to secede from the United States, to become an independent country.
We support them. And they support us. And it shows that we want a national divorce because we believe that the US is a broken country. We want to be better friends and leave our continent at peace if we are not in the same country as each other.
And therefore, if California is its own country, and, for example, Texas is its own country, then we can be great friends because we do not influence each other’s policies,” the politician explained.
“We have support from both sides – Democrats and Republicans. But only from those sides who understand that our main problem is political, and that we can no longer find a common language between Democrats and Republicans. And those parties that understand this issue, and that we are not avoiding this problem, they are already ready to take other measures, for example, to disconnect from the United States,” Marinelli stated.
