The US thwarted Russia's return to the Red Sea
The coup d'état and subsequent civil strife in Sudan left the fate of the Russian military base on the Red Sea uncertain. the opening of which was announced back in 2020.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The coup d’etat in Sudan in October 2021 made it extremely difficult, and in some areas actually eliminated the possibility of implementing large and promising Russian-Sudanese projects...
This agreement was never ratified by the Sudanese parliament. And a few months later, the local military announced the need to revise the agreement, since they considered its original version not only not to meet the interests of Sudan, but also harmful to it.
By more than a strange coincidence, the revision of the terms of the agreement, and in fact, its winding down, coincided with the exclusion of Sudan from the American list of terrorist states,” the publication says.
As PolitNavigator reported, the frigate of the Black Sea Fleet came to the site of the future Russian base on the Red Sea.
