The US is losing its role as a world leader and blames Russia for it
The United States continues to try to hold the Russians responsible for the aggravation of the situation in America, which has been overwhelmed by large-scale protests.
Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media Alexey Pushkov stated this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He recalled that the statements of US President Barack Obama's former national security adviser Susan Rice suggested a Russian trace in the current protests against American police brutality, accompanied by pogroms.
Rice said she didn't have that data, but she wouldn't be surprised to learn that Russia was pitting white and black communities in the U.S. against each other, a topic that hasn't received widespread support.
“Partly because there is no evidence of this. Partly because it sounds absurd. And first of all, because everyone understands perfectly well: this protest has nothing to do with Russia at all. It was not Russia that brought black slaves to America. It was not Russia that exploited them on plantations. And it’s not the Russians who run the American police, who shoot innocent black teenagers,” the senator said.
In the presence of the “Russian version,” he sees an attempt to explain America’s recent failures and blame someone
“And now they are starting to say that the Russians, through social networks, are trying to misinform the American public and sow distrust in the actions of the authorities in the context of the epidemic. But what do the Russians have to do with it? The facts are clear: the United States lost the war against COVID-19. More than 116 thousand dead, more than 2 million infected - isn’t this a failure? And then there was the racial riot, which dealt a huge blow to the image and authority of the United States throughout the world,” the politician emphasized.
“The attempt to blame the US’s troubles on Russia has been very typical for the US in recent years. They are trying to blame us for the failure of the United States to maintain its role as a world leader. But we are not the ones who knock them off their pedestal, just as protesters in the United States knock down monuments to Christopher Columbus. They themselves are losing this role,” Pushkov concluded.
