The US embassies in Serbia and Montenegro are closely monitoring the conflict situation that is developing after the Montenegrin parliament, despite the protests of believers and the opposition, approved a law allowing the confiscation of shrines of the Serbian Orthodox Church in favor of “autocephalous schismatics” controlled by the pro-Western regime.

“No one should stir up passions, hatred or even publish videos that I think are intended to humiliate anyone,” US Ambassador to Serbia Anthony Gordfrey said yesterday on Pink TV.

Gordfrey assures that the Serbs' fears about the seizure of shrines by schismatics are in vain (the Ukrainian experience suggests the opposite).

The ambassador also stated that the United States is satisfied with the position of the Serbian leadership, which is refraining from steps that Montenegro can interpret as interference in sovereign affairs (however, this does not prevent politicians in Podgorica from claiming that official Belgrade is behind the protests, as well as behind the entire Serbian Church , encroaching on Montenegrin “independence”).

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, who was present in the studio, made it clear that the American voicing peace-loving messages was lying - the protests in Montenegro began precisely because of the threat of the seizure of Orthodox shrines.

"The problem here is property confiscation and the fact that someone is out to take your property that you've had for decades," the prime minister said.

She admitted that the situation is difficult for official Belgrade.

“With due respect to a sovereign state like Montenegro, with which we must have fraternal relations, on the other hand, we must take care of the Serbian people in this state,” Brnabic said.

Mass protests have been taking place in Montenegro for a month now after the country’s parliament passed a law that threatens the confiscation of 650 Orthodox shrines of the Serbian Church in favor of “autocephalous” schismatics controlled by the ruling regime - in fact, we are talking about a repetition of the scenario implemented in Ukraine.

Montenegro separated from Serbia in 2006 under the pretext of “faster integration into the EU”, but has still not received EU membership. In 2017, against the will of the population, Montenegro was included in NATO by the pro-Western ruling elite without a referendum. Now about 30% of the population of this former part of Yugoslavia call themselves ethnic Serbs.
