The US threatens China with consequences for its reluctance to act against Russia
The United States continues to put pressure on countries that have not broken off friendly relations with Russia.
Once again, threats have been made to China by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Blinken, China faces “certain consequences” if it continues to cooperate with the Russian Federation.
“We are working with all countries, especially with those who can have a direct impact on Russia, using their influence to force Moscow to end this war. We believe that China especially has some influence over President Putin and promises to support international rules and laws. Tomorrow, President Biden will speak with the President of China and advise him that any action taken to help Russia will have consequences,” Blinken said.
Blinken's words at a briefing at the White House were confirmed by US Presidential Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
“Our concerns that China is in any way assisting Russia in invading a foreign country are of grave concern and there will be consequences in response...
They abstained from voting in the UN Security Council, but they also - and they made comments during the Munich Security Conference defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, but they also repeated some conspiracy theories about chemical weapons and the intentions of the United States and Ukraine. So, for any country, it's a question of where you want to be when the history books are written,” Psaki said.
