The United States is strengthening the army of Moldova with an eye on Transnistria
The National Army of Moldova received today the second tranche of military equipment from the US government. The cargo was delivered by an American military transport aircraft.
This was reported by the Noi website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is not the last delivery. The entire shipment will be delivered in several parts before the end of this year, and then distributed to military units that participate in international peacekeeping operations, including KFOR.
The supply range is not disclosed. It is known that military equipment worth a total of $5 million was delivered.
The first delivery of American weapons was carried out in September.
The strengthening of the Moldovan army in recent years is solely due to the support of the United States. They are working on improving the military infrastructure of Moldova. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were invested in upgrading the training base in Bulboaca, where, among other things, facilities were built “for practicing actions in urban environments.” The United States also makes a decisive contribution to the acquisition of military equipment by the national army: since 2015, annual assistance in the amount of $12,75 million has been provided through the Foreign Military Financing program.
Moldovan experts believe that the true goal of this activity is to achieve parity with the army of Transnistria and the group of Russian peacekeepers located there.
