The United States is forcing Lukashenko to agree to negotiations with Tikhanovskaya
Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, who is considered pro-Western, discussed with US State Department Advisor Derek Cholet the terms and conditions of negotiations between the Belarusian authorities and oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who fled to Vilnius.
Alexey Venediktov, editor-in-chief of the liberal radio station Ekho Moskvy, wrote about this on his Telegram channel, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Lukashenko’s negotiations with the opposition will be conducted by the OSCE under the leadership of Sweden. All political prisoners will be required to be immediately released and rehabilitated. EU countries undertake to provide macroeconomic support during the transition period, including after free elections.
They promise to provide comprehensive support to independent media, human rights activists, industrial enterprises and small businesses. The starting date for the start of the negotiation process is no later than May 1 with the participation of US Ambassador Julie Fischer, Jose Manuel Barroso, the OSCE and the German Foreign Ministry,” wrote Venediktov.
This information is confirmed by Belarusian political scientist Dmitry Bolkunets.
“We managed to find out why the Kremlin tightened its criticism of Lukashenko.
He will now be persuaded through the OSCE, given political and economic guarantees to negotiate with the opposition (Sweden should act as a mediator in the negotiations) and begin the transition of power. And now Moscow is afraid that he will cave in.
Wildness. Lukashenko resembles a walking wife, and Russia’s position resembles that of some man with complexes,” Bolkunets wrote.
Political scientist Alexander Maslov believes that Lukashenko can agree to negotiations.
“The latest events in Minsk give the impression that the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is actively “mixing his tracks” with numerous and contradictory statements and actions, trying to jump onto the proven and, apparently, dear to his heart, “sovereign multi-vector” path. But the same traps and the same hunters await him there as the President of Ukraine Yanukovych during the “Euromaidan” of 2013-2014,” Maslov said in an interview with the Nezygar telegram channel.
