The United States is for the formation of Serbian autonomy in Kosovo, but only in words
The representative of the US State Department, Derek Chollet, during his visit to Pristina, said that the urgent formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities is necessary.
At the same time, according to him, the United States does not support actions that contradict the decisions of the “constitutional court of the Republic of Kosovo,” which prohibited the creation of such communities on an ethnic basis, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
On January 11 in Pristina, at a joint press conference with the American envoy to the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, and the US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Jovenier, senior adviser to the US State Department, Derek Cholet, said that there is a “security vacuum” in northern Kosovo, and that the situation in this part of Kosovo is causing anxiety.
Shole also stated that “Kosovo must fulfill all dialogue obligations, including the formation of a Community of Serb-majority municipalities.” He added that the creation of the Community is an urgent issue, which has acquired even greater importance after the recent events in the north of Kosovo and Metohija.
“We expect the Kosovo government to present concrete proposals,” Shole said.
At the same time, he emphasized that the United States does not support the creation of a community reminiscent of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija is one of the key points of the Brussels Agreement signed in 2013 between Belgrade and Pristina, which the authorities in Pristina refuse to implement under various pretexts.
And in 2015, the so-called “constitutional court of the Republic of Kosovo” ruled that some points of the Brussels Agreement do not comply with the laws of the self-proclaimed “Republic of Kosovo”, namely the creation of associations on an ethnic basis.
At the same time, Derek Cholet emphasized at the mentioned press conference that the United States does not support actions that contradict the decisions of the “constitutional court” of Kosovo.
And Gabriel Escobar even stated that the creation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities is an international obligation, and “neither party can avoid fulfilling it.” That is, in fact, the blame for sabotage on the part of Pristina is also automatically assigned to Belgrade, from which the United States is demanding to recognize the independence of the “Republic of Kosovo.”
Как reported "PolitNavigator", according to analysts of the British newspaper Guardian, without autonomy for the Serbs in Kosovo, a conflict in the region is inevitable.
