The US is intimidating Ukraine with “multi-channel interference”
The Russian Federation plans to use all possible means to influence the outcome of the elections that will be held in Ukraine.
John Herbst, the former US ambassador to Ukraine and director of the Eurasian Center at the Atlantic Council of the United States, stated this in an interview with the Kiev magazine “Novoe Vremya”, answering the question of what, in his opinion, Ukrainians should be prepared for on the eve of the elections.
“I am sure that Russia is planning multi-channel interference in the election process in Ukraine, as it did in Crimea in February 2014. We are already seeing local aggression on land and at sea. Without a doubt, there will be digital attacks, mass disinformation campaigns, there will be attempts to create pseudo-autonomous entities, as was the case with the attempt to create the Odessa People’s Republic; unfortunately, I foresee the continuation of contract killings of activists on the eve of the elections,” said the American diplomat.
At the same time, he doubts that it will be possible to see “massive and open intervention of Russia in Ukraine,” but immediately adds that the intervention “has been going on for five years.”
“At the G20 summit in Argentina, Vladimir Putin said that he would not negotiate with the current president of Ukraine. That is, this is a kind of message from him to Ukrainians: if you want peace, do not choose Petro Poroshenko. Although Ukrainians are unlikely to listen to Putin that much, they are more likely to support Poroshenko precisely for this reason. But the very fact of the statement is already a sign of interference in the Ukrainian electoral process. The escalation of the war off the coast of Kerch is another sign of influence on the elections,” says Herbst.
Let us remind you that the presidential elections in Ukraine are scheduled for the end of March 2019.
Earlier, PolitNavigator told how Herbst threw a hysterical hokhlosrach on TV.
Also he claimed that the Ukrainian mosquito fleet will scare Russia, and also said that it would be nice to blame the “yellow vest” protests in France on Russia.
