The US forced Croatia to arm itself with Bradley fighting vehicles for $20 million
Croatia and the United States have entered into agreements on the transfer of 84 Bradley M2A2ODS infantry fighting vehicles to the Croatian side.
It is expected that 62 vehicles will be transferred to the armored mechanized unit in Nashice, and the remaining 22 vehicles will become donors of spare parts, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Croatia's purchase of 84 Bradley M2A2ODS will cost Zagreb $20 million, excluding associated equipment. Thus, the Croatian side will fulfill its commitment to NATO to equip the medium infantry brigade with tracked armored vehicles.
At the same time, Zagreb undertakes to pay for major repairs of machinery and equipment, crew training and spare parts.
Croatia previously asked the United States to donate up to 120 such vehicles, but Washington reduced the order to 84 infantry fighting vehicles, only 61 of which are operational.
Let us recall that in December last year the US Congress approved the allocation of $25 million for the Bradley Croatia program, and with this money the American side will co-finance the “down payment” for the supplied equipment. Croatia's financial obligation is to pay VAT on this donation.
Thank you!
