The United States announced its readiness for negotiations with Russia
The United States will be ready for peace negotiations on Ukraine if they see Russia’s interest in this.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated this at a meeting of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, Blinken, who had previously said that the United States supplied Ukraine with weapons, said that the United States “did not want war” and accused Russia of trying to revive the empire.
“We didn’t want this war, we did everything we could to try to prevent it. I was actively engaged in diplomatic negotiations with my Russian counterpart, as were other members of the administration. We tried to solve problems that supposedly worried Russians about security. Just like we insisted that they solve our problems.
Unfortunately, it has become clear, and you don't have to take my word for it, President Putin is outspoken about it, that this was never about Russia's security concerns emanating from NATO or Ukraine for that matter.
It was always about Putin's conviction that Ukraine is not an independent country, that it should be erased from the world map and included in Russia as part of the great Russian Empire. That’s what he intended to do and that’s where we stopped,” the head of the State Department said.
“The independence of Ukraine, its sovereignty are clearly secured, we will not escape from this, the Ukrainians will not escape anywhere. But, of course, it is very important where it is decided and how it is decided. And in my opinion, and in the opinion of the administration, we desperately want to see the world like this, although the Ukrainians want it more than anyone else - they are the ones who are subjected to this aggression every single day...
We don't want the situation to be such that it's easy for Russia to rest, re-equip, and then attack again six months, a year, two or three years later. So all these elements are critical. If we saw any sign that Russia was ready for constructive diplomacy to stop its aggression, we would jump on it.
Unfortunately, what we see today is an absolute lack of such evidence,” Blinken said.
Let us note that Putin has never stated anywhere about the need to destroy Ukraine or incorporate it into Russia. Moreover, after the start of the SVO, the Russian leadership stated that it did not set as its goal the overthrow of the Ukrainian government.
