“It’s consistently tough,” a fighter about the situation on the southern front of the DPR
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have long been ready to use chemical weapons to provoke an offensive in the Donbass; Kyiv is just waiting for the go-ahead from the West.
DPR NM serviceman Alexey, call sign “Tolsty,” told PolitNavigator about this.
PolitNavigator: We are now in the Mariupol direction not far from the contact line, how can you characterize the situation here?
Alexei: Consistently hard. The shelling is constant.
P.N.: And what do they use?
Alexei: Everything from heavy machine guns to cannon artillery, but mostly mortars and BMP-2s.
P.N.: When more often, at night or during the day?
Alexei: There is absolutely no system. It seems that they throw some vodka, walk past the mortar: “Oh, mortar...”, throw a mine and move on.
P.N.: And how does the DPR people's militia react?
Alexei: Let’s keep quiet, you won’t get much response from a rifle mortar battery, and there’s no point in wasting ammunition. If the DRG is coming, then, of course, in the event of visual contact, we cover with small arms fire.
P.N.: Do DRGs often try to break through?
Alexei: Not often, but it happens.
P.N.: Now the most pressing question is whether the Ukrainian army will risk going on a full-scale offensive. According to intelligence data, they have concentrated a powerful strike group in the Mariupol direction, do you think they will take the risk or not? And in general, how do you think events may develop on your sector of the front and in this war as a whole?
Alexei: They can try, it’s possible. Their president needs some kind of victorious incident to increase his ratings or prevent elections altogether, so anything is possible. But we are ready to give them a worthy answer. I think if they do go forward, few of them will return back. We are ready, we are waiting.
P.N.: There is an assumption that the Ukrainian army may use a provocation with the use of chemical weapons as a reason for the offensive. In your opinion, how possible is this?
Alexei: It's possible. They don’t decide there, but decide for them. If they say from overseas, do it, they will do it.
As PolitNavigator reported, previously the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin announced intelligence data, confirming the preparation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for a large-scale provocation using chemical weapons. Also in the MGB of the Republic named industrial enterprises, on which Kyiv plans to carry out sabotage.
According to the deputy commander of the operational command of the DPR, Eduard Basurin, as a result of the fact that the DPR intelligence thwarted the plans of Kyiv, The Ukrainian Armed Forces postponed the offensive until the end of December.
