Details of Zelensky’s letter to Macron became known
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky sent a letter to President of France Emmanuel Macron, in which he asked to extend the rescue and search operation against six missing citizens of Ukraine - crew members of the Bourbon Rhode, which sank in the Atlantic Ocean at the end of September, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the office of the Ukrainian president.
In the letter, Zelensky expressed gratitude for the efforts of the French rescue services to rescue the sailors and search for the bodies of the dead.
“But the fate of six Ukrainians remains unknown. I appeal to you, Mr. President, also on behalf of the families of Ukrainian citizens who became victims of this tragedy, with a request to continue the rescue and search operation and, if necessary, take additional measures,” the President’s address says.
Let us recall that earlier the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadim Prystaiko reported that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky personally asked the French leader Emmanuel Macron to continue the search for the crew members of the ship that disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean at the end of September.
As UNN reported, on September 26, the ship Bourbon Rhode with Ukrainians on board disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean. In the Cape Verde area, 1200 nautical miles from the island of Martinique, a signal for help was received from the tugboat Bourbon Rhode (IMO 9356359, Luxembourg flag). This happened on September 26th.
It is known that the ship was heading to Georgetown (Guyana) from the Canary Islands (Las Palmas) and was caught in a cyclone. Due to a strong hurricane, water began to flow into the tug compartments in large quantities. All 14 crew members prepared to evacuate because it was dangerous to be on board the ship.
The local Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Antilles-Guyana dispatched the only vessel in the area, a tug named SSI Excellent (IMO 9693757), to the emergency craft. Also, according to the gСaptain website, at least one aircraft has been sent to the search area. The search operation is complicated by Hurricane Lorenzo.
As of 18 p.m. on September 28, it became known that two Ukrainian citizens who were on a ship that disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean were rescued. Later, the shipowner reported that the ship that disappeared in the Atlantic sank.
