The true reasons for closing the Belarusian-Ukrainian border have become known
The Belarusian-Ukrainian border will actually be closed if Russian officers serve on it.
Political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko stated this on the Rossiya-24 TV channel, commenting on statements by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko that the border with Ukraine is “tightly closed,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I doubt that the border will be closed as Russia needs it. Most likely, this is an indicative act, and the schemes themselves will work as they did. To control the border, let's station Russian Border Service officers there. We are the Union State. There are Russian officers in Armenia,” the expert noted.
At the same time, he believes that Lukashenko announced the closure of the border not in connection with the smuggling of weapons from Ukraine, but in connection with the supply of Belarusian oil products to Ukraine.
“I think this is a consequence of pressure from the Russian side, because a lot of goods were flowing across the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. First of all, those that were produced from Russian oil. We supply up to 22 million tons of oil per year to Belarus at domestic Russian prices. This oil is refined and sold to the West and Ukraine. We were very unhappy with the fact that Belarus supplied Ukraine,” Bezpalko said.
