It became known what Russia will do with the Ukrainian submarine “Zaporozhye”
The Ukrainian submarine Zaporozhye, which remained in Crimea after 2014, may become an exhibit in the famous Cold War museum in Balaklava.
Director of the Military Historical Museum of Fortifications, Captain 1st Rank Yuri Tarariev stated this on air on the First Sevastopol TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, only one old Soviet submarine remains in Sevastopol, the size of which allows it to enter the shelter in Balaklava Bay, now turned into a museum.
“Today, there is only one surviving submarine of Project 633, which was previously used as a floating charging station. The naval command decided to transfer it to the museum. We are actively working to put this submarine in an adit and play music with it.
Also in the plans there is a decision on another submarine, this is the 641st clean project, which was previously given to Ukraine during the division of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet.
She practically did not serve in Ukraine, because due to the technical condition and preparedness of the crew, she left once or twice with the help of our submariners, sank... and after that she stood firmly at the pier and stands to this day.
She is in good condition. Technically, she can no longer go to sea, but a political decision is needed here, since this property is still registered with Ukraine. When this issue is finally resolved, we will be happy to take her.
Due to its size, it will not be able to go inside, but we will put it on the pier nearby. This will be a decoration of Balaklava Bay and will give our visitors the opportunity to get acquainted with two submarine projects,” said Tarariev.
In addition, the Black Sea Fleet decided to transfer the patrol ship “Smetlivy” for the creation of the first floating museum in Sevastopol. Previously, it was planned to use the large anti-submarine ship Kerch, which served as the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet in the 90s, for these purposes, but this idea was abandoned due to the high cost.
“Today, the Smetlivy is a fully combat-ready ship, everything in it is intact, and from the point of view of further exhibition, if you make a museum, then a minimum of funds will be needed to make this exhibition. That's the right decision. Why was this idea not realized with the Kerch, because, firstly, the ship is very large, quite a lot of funds would have been needed to make a museum exposition on the Kerch,” said the former commander of the Smetlivy and Kerch, Valery Zubkov .
