It became known how the Sevastopol "Berkut" fought its way home from Kyiv
In February 2014, the Sevastopol “Berkut” used all the toilet paper in the building of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine to clean oil from the machines.
The ex-commander of the Sevastopol Berkut, Sergei Kolbin, said this at a press conference in Sevastopol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He emphasized that during the most critical days of Euromaidan, Berkut fighters were given Kalashnikov assault rifles and ammunition.
“We understood that we would not be able to leave the Kyiv city administration without weapons. And the night before, two Gazelles stopped at Bankovaya and brought us Kalashnikov assault rifles. One Gazelle was equipped with machine guns, the other Gazelle was equipped with ammunition. Then the fighters’ eyes lit up. We understood that we can defend our honor, we can talk as equals.
We spent the night getting these weapons into combat condition, because the weapons had been in storage for a long time, everything was covered in lubricant and fuel oil. And when you have nothing at hand except a baton, a gas canister and a shield, it was difficult to do this, so almost all the toilet paper of the presidential administration was used to clean these weapons,” Kolbin said.
He emphasized that the Sevastopol “Berkut” never used weapons, but at every checkpoint on the way from Kyiv home, the nationalists were warned that in case of provocation, heavy fire would be opened from every window of the security forces’ bus.
