It became known when the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will finally stop
Gazprom has decided on the gas supply route via the Turkish Stream, which will pass through Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia, and is already participating in the procedure for booking new pipeline capacities in these countries.
Kommersant reports this, clarifying that, in fact, we are talking about the route South Stream, which was frozen in the EU in 2014 under US pressure.
The newspaper points out that it is now difficult to find fault with the project, since Gazprom’s approach is fully consistent with EU legislation.
“From the materials of gas transport operators in Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia published in October-November as part of the procedure for booking their future capacities (open season), it follows that Gazprom has chosen the supply route to Europe along the second line of the Turkish Stream through these countries. Gas will go to Bulgaria and Serbia from 2020, to Hungary from 2021 and to Slovakia in the second half of 2022,” the publication writes.
It is noted that such a schedule for the construction of Turkish Stream extensions will allow Gazprom to abandon transit through Ukraine starting in 2022.
“Thus, the company will have to agree with NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine on maintaining transit in 2020 and 2021, and in 2021 we can talk about less than 10 billion cubic meters. But if Gazprom wants to increase exports to Europe, Ukraine will retain a larger volume of transit,” the newspaper summarizes.
