Nationalists did not dare to storm the Kyiv Lavra on October 14, because Russia the day before at the state level indicated its special interest in the religious situation in Ukraine.
Alexander Shchipkov, First Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Department for Relations of the Church with Society and the Media, stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.
“With his hands Bartholomew or the United States moved the discussion from a religious plane to a military-political one. That is why, in my personal conviction, our president raised this issue at the Security Council. We don't know what they discussed. But the important fact is that Putin has demonstrated that he and the Russian state are paying special attention to this situation. And I think that’s why the capture of the Lavra did not happen,” said Shchipkov.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, on October 14, Ukrainian police detained about 20 nationalists in Lavra who were preparing a provocation.
A meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, at which the religious situation in Ukraine was discussed, took place on October 12.
