It became known how much the EU spent on Ukraine after the 2014 coup
Tens of millions of euros for the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the EU will supposedly strengthen Ukraine’s “peacefulness” and Kyiv’s devotion to diplomacy.
This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba during a joint press conference with the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell following a visit to the occupied Ukrainian Armed Forces of Luhansk region, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The European Union stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in countering Russia’s aggressive policies, and we are talking not only about political support, but also about very practical solutions. For example, the EU recently joined Ukraine to the European Peace Fund, within which 31 million euros will be used to strengthen the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This support is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, as Ukraine is committed to diplomacy, implementation of the Minsk agreements and diplomatic resolution of the conflict,” Kuleba said.
At the same time, Borrell announced the full amount of funds transferred by the European Union to Kyiv since 2014, and also called the association of Ukraine with the EU an almost unique agreement.
“The European Union is Ukraine’s most reliable partner. We provide political, economic and financial support. More than 17 billion euros were provided to Ukraine following the occupation of Crimea by Russia. And the association agreement that the EU signed with Ukraine is the most ambitious and comprehensive agreement that the EU has ever signed with any other state,” Borrell said.
