It became clear why Sandu thanked everyone except Russia for the gas
President of Moldova Maia Sandu admits that Gazprom agreed to conclude a contract with Moldovagaz at the request of European leaders.
She stated this in an interview with RTR Moldova TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“None of our people called. We have spoken to all our European partners. It was very difficult. We needed help. Maybe Mrs. Merkel or some other European leader spoke with the Russian leaders,” Sandu said.
In November, when Moldova entered into an agreement with Gazprom after a month-long energy crisis, Sandu thanked the European Union, the United States and Ukraine for this.
She praised her government for “being able to keep the negotiations away from discussing political topics.” Sandu hopes that in the spring, when the excitement on European exchanges subsides, Gazprom will reduce the price for Moldova. At the same time, she announced investments in additional sources of gas production.
“When prices return to normal, everything will be different,” Sandu said.
It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilitsa said on TV8 that her deputy Andrei Spinu, who negotiated with Gazprom, did not have authority from the government.
“Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu did not have the authority through the government decision. Because if they were, you would have seen the government decree. But such a resolution does not exist. There were no formal authority to sign this protocol,” Gavrilitsa said.
Moldovan observers believe that this statement provides grounds for terminating the contract with Gazprom.
