Old Europe intends to quickly forget about Crimea
France and Germany are beginning to actively use the Russian factor to annoy the United States, while trying to quickly forget about Ukrainian problems
Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko said this on Apostrophe TV, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is in the interests of the Germans today to become as independent as possible from the United States - the Germans and the French have adopted this policy, the so-called neo-Gaullism of Macron, the corresponding confrontation and constant picking between Merkel and Trump, and so on lead to the fact that the same Old Europe begins to use the Russian factor precisely in order to annoy their overseas partners.
The issue of construction of Nord Stream 2 is one of the clearest illustrations of this situation. As for Ukraine, they would really like to quickly forget that there is some kind of conflict here,” Bondarenko said.
“We won’t let you!” – the TV presenter inserted an indignant remark.
“Merkel just a few weeks ago made a statement that sanctions on Russia could be lifted if there is significant progress on the Donbass issue. She did not decipher what kind of progress, although the sanctions were imposed not because of Donbass, but because of Crimea. Therefore, the issue of Crimea somehow naturally faded into the background in big European politics.
Accordingly, Donbass can become, in the eyes of our European partners, a bargaining chip that can be used in their relations with Russia so that Russia is forgiven for Crimea by default,” the expert said.
“As for Merkel, her statement is not just a statement: since July 1, Germany has dominated the Council of the EU and today Germany is the main moderator throughout Europe,” Bondarenko added.
